Magdalena Sroka – Deputy Mayor of the City of Krakow

Magdalena Sroka graduated from the Jagiellonian University (Polish Philology, specialization: Theatre Studies) in Krakow. Culture manager, producer and coordinator of numerous international projects, authority in the matters of culture and art.

In the years 1998-2003 she was associated with Biuro Festiwalowe Kraków 2000, where she was responsible for cultural projects related with the title of European Capital of Culture granted to Krakow, such as.: Ludwig van Beethoven Easter Festival, Festiwal Filmów Operowych, Crossroads Festival of Traditional Music, Genius Loci Festival, and concerts: New York Philharmonic, Norddeutscher Rundfunk, Concentus Musicus, Bergen Philharmonic, Wiener Akademie, Bundesjugend Orchester conducted by Gerd Albrecht within the Polish-German project “Together in the Heart of Europe”. She organized and produced most spectacular mass cultural events in Poland (“Wianki” and New Year’s Eve in Krakow).

Magdalena Sroka prepared strategic documentation and EU project applications, i.e. she participated in the development of Krakow’s first City Promotion Strategy for the years 2003-2007. In 2005 she collaborated with the EXPO 2005 program bureau. She is the founder member of the Ludwig van Beethoven Association and until 2008 she was the Head of the Office of Ludwig van Beethoven Easter Festival. Magdalena Sroka co-produced the following TV programmes „Magazyn Ekspresu Reporterów", „Miss World Finals 2006 " (in collaboration with the Polish Chamber of Commerce), „May '88" (with the European Solidarity Centre) and others.

In the years 2008-2010 she was Head of the Krakow Festival Office (Krakowskie Biuro Festiwalowe), organising prestigious cultural events in Krakow and coordinating a unique Polish programme of cultural city promotion “6 Senses”. She founded Krakow Film Commission and Regional Film Fund in Krakow. Magdalena Sroka is one of the experts of the Congress of Polish Culture, she co-initiated legislative changes regarding mainly the act Public Procurement Law, as well as a series of acts regulating the functioning of the culture sector.
